Compounding Aseptic Isolators

A Compounding Aseptic Containment Isolator (CACI) designed for the containment of hazardous chemotherapy and other agents and IV admixtures ChemoSHIELD® negative pressure compounding aseptic containment isolators offer a contained, leak-tight (tested to AGS standard), negative pressure work area suitable for hazardous pharmaceutical compounds, chemotherapy agents or IV admixtures that can be harmful to pharmacy personnel. ChemoSHIELD creates a unidirectional HEPA-filtered airflow of better than ISO Class 5 (Class 100) air cleanliness conditions within the negative pressure chamber to prevent migration of hazardous contaminants to the outside and to minimize cross-contamination across the direct compounding area. ChemoSHIELD has no onboard motor/blower to maintain and service. All static pressure and airflow are supplied by the building exhaust system.

Uncompromised Safety and Performance
  • The industry-leading design features of ChemoSHIELD allow it to provide sterile interior conditions while also increasing personnel protection from exposure.
  • A spacious, negative pressure pass-through chamber allows safe and easy transfer of materials into or out of the main chamber.
  • Supplied gloves and glove sleeves are ASTM D6978 tested for use with chemotherapy drugs.
  • A hinged viewscreen allows for easy loading of instruments and equipment.
  • Ambidextrous gloves are positioned in the main chamber to allow total access to the interior.
  • The pass-through door also includes one ambidextrous glove to permit manipulation of contents or surface decontamination of items moved to or from the main chamber.

HEPA-Filtered Interlock Permits Secure Pass-Through In and Out of the Work Area
  • Pass-through door to the main work area swings opens for easy transfer of materials between the interchange and main chamber.
  • The clear-view outer interlock door is left-hand swinging. The door seals against peripheral gaskets to maintain internal negative pressure. This door opens only when inner chamber door is closed.
  • The pass-through door to the main work area swings open while under negative pressure. This door opens only when the outer door is closed.

Cabinet Containment, Personnel and Product Protection

The isolator pass-through and main chamber pressure are negative to the room. In the standard configuration, the pass-through is slightly more negative than the main chamber to prioritize cleanliness in the main chamber while ensuring containment of hazardous compounds throughout the isolator. The pass-through door and inner chamber door are mechanically interlocked to prevent both doors from being opened simultaneously.
  • Individual supply and exhaust HEPA filters service the main chamber and interchange.
  • Exhaust filters are safely and easily removed via bag-out provision to contain hazardous compounds prior to disposal.
  • A stainless-steel air diffuser in the main chamber and pass-through offers additional protection to supply filters.
  • Key lock on cabinet front prevents unauthorized opening of fully hinged front viewscreen that may compromise containment capability or aseptic environment.
  • Mass airflow monitor audio/visual alarm system warns the user when the exhaust system has inadequate airflow.

Optimized Interior Workspace, Plus Simplified Cleaning
  • All interior surfaces of the main chamber and pass-through are made of durable stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance.
  • Back and side walls are polished to a non-glare, easy-to-clean finish.
  • Interior surfaces can be accessed via glove ports for sanitization.
  • The interior cabinet’s radius corners permit easy wipe down./li>
  • The sectional work surface trays are fully removable. Trays stack easily to either side to simplify cleaning and filter changes.
  • Exterior, scratch-resistant, powder coat finish provides the durability required in pharmacy environments.
A Compounding Aseptic Isolator (CAI) designed for aseptic compounding of non-hazardous pharmaceuticals
SterilSHIELD® positive pressure compounding aseptic isolators (CAIs) offer a contained, positive pressure work area suitable for non-hazardous pharmaceutical compounding. SterilSHIELD creates a unidirectional HEPA-filtered airflow of better than ISO Class 5 (Class 100) air cleanliness conditions within a positive pressure chamber to provide superior sterility and to minimize cross-contamination.

Pressure Balance Ensures Product Protection

The isolator main chamber pressure is positive to the room, ensuring no room contaminants can enter the work area. Additionally, the main chamber is slightly more positive than the pass-through to maintain aseptic conditions in the main chamber.
  • Full ceiling, front-loading HEPA supply filter is 99.99% efficient; provides better than ISO Class 5 (Class 100) air within the pass-through and main working chambers.
  • Unidirectional downward airflow purges airborne particulates from the work area.
  • Stainless steel air diffuser in the main chamber and passthrough provides unidirectional airflow and protects the HEPA filter.

Plenum Design Optimizes Protection and Extends Filter Life

SterilSHIELD® employs a unique, high performance airflow system that provides optimum protection from particulates, extends filter life, and reduces cost of ownership.
  • The filter configuration creates internal unidirectional airflow from top to bottom that sweeps particulates from work area. The filter cross section covers 100% of the work area.
  • The unique plenum apportions and distributes air across, then through the HEPA supply filter, improving downflow uniformity, extending useful filter life and reducing noise.
  • The filter mount provides a direct seal of the filter to the plenum and simplifies filter replacement.

HEPA-Filtered Pass-Through In and Out of the Work Area
  • The outer pass-through door is constructed of clear-view shatterproof acrylic plastic and opens with a left-hand swing. (SterilSHIELD 800 has doors on both ends; the left door swings left and the right door swings right.)
  • A convenient lift-up sash opens to 8" to permit quick transfer of small items without opening the door.
  • The outer door seals against peripheral gaskets to maintain internal positive pressure.
  • The internal pass-through door lifts vertically for maximum use of space and permits easy transfer of materials in or out of the positive pressure work area.
